The iPod third generation was thinner than the previous models, the models replaced the FireWire port with a new Dock Connector and introduced the Touch Wheel, a completely non-mechanical interface with the four auxiliary buttons located in a row between the screen and the touch wheel. The front plate had rounded edges, and the rear casing was slightly rounded as well. A new wired remote connector was introduced. Whereas first and second generation classics had an auxiliary ring around the headphone port for the remote, the third generation classic had a 4-pin jack adjacent to the headphone port.

Wow… it’s insane there’s already been like two iPods a year since 2005 and that was after being one a year. so theres like… eleven iPods now. and its all thanks to the ones from the early years like this one that made it possible to have the new iPods around

I agree with you John, I think they should keep this design, but they lose screen space.

I think your best bet will be somewhere like ebay. I dont think they sell it in shops anymore. But can i just say trying to get hold of accessories for this ipod are hard to come by. You should be able to get one for around 50-100 pounds.

Still use this iPod, just bought some JBL on Stage 200 iD speakers. But one of the speakers is not working, so I have to send it back. Found out while trying it, that the Ipod does not respond on wheel or bottons after its docked in the OnStage Speaker. ??? Why not fot Gods sake? Remote doesnt work either. Wheel/bottons are working when I use the aux-input, unfortunately there’s not even a whisper from the speaker. Has anyone experience with combination speakers en this iPod?

christine…its not the speakers its the ipod. the accessories made are not usually compatible with the 3rd generation ipods. have to look at the specialists website for what you want. i had same problem.

Mine is still going strong and have had it at least 5 years now. Only hassle i find is the kit to support it – i.e. charger and compatability with speaker dock’s etc. Just got a 4th Gen for under £40 which should solve that and make my music collection manageable across the 3rd Gen and my little shuffle (which is also still fantastic).
