iPod Expert Comments:

The 2nd generation iPod minis no longer came with a FireWire cable or an AC power adapter, which were left out to reduce the selling prices of the new iPod minis. iPod mini batteries, like many Lithium Ion batteries, run down to 80% capacity after 400 full charge cycles.[2] A proprietary dock connector was provided on the bottom of the device for a connection to a computer's USB or FireWire port. The unit's battery could be charged during connection. Along the top it had a hold switch, a headphone jack, and a remote connector for accessories.

You can replace the battery on all iPod models, although on some it is not for the faint of heart so to say. So you can either order a battery and replace it yourself or let some company do it. Just search for iPod repairs or battery. In a broader sense they way Apple does is pretty “green” actually, because the iPod doensn’t have all the extra latches, switches and contacts that a normal replaceable battery has. They just simply click close and use a lot less screws than competitor models!

I’m glad the nano’s took over and replaced the mini’s. The Mini’s are so thick, and well, not my favorite :/

I got my mini when it first came out and Im still using it today. They are so tough…I have put mine threw hell and all there is to show is a few scratches but recently the top cover is starting to come off.

I love the size of it…unlike the nanos you can actually tell you still have it on you

Yes iPod mini is one of several iPod that the battery CAN be replaced, the guy before me is wrong. This mini battery is 100 percent replaceable!

The battery on the mini is one of several models that it can be replaced on! The person before me was wrong where he said that you couldn’t replace iPod batteries. While you cannot on all iPods, the mini is 100 percent replaceable.

a usb sync cable from the apple store for any present-day iPod should work just fine, provided your computer has USB 2.0 (which almost all do these days)

otherwise you need a harder-to-find firewire sync cable, search around ebay etc. for that one

I have had my 5G iPod since new 3 or 4 Years use every day and it looks like it but functions flawless. I value it as much as my hammer. One wish I could find a product that I saw on youtube called iaPeel its a covering that looks very durable and you can print your own graphics on it on your printer at home. Does anybody have a clue where to buy it?

I got an Iphone after having my iPod mini for like 4 years or something. It took awhile to get used to and eventually I put my mini in a drawer and never saw it again. 4 months or so later, I was curious to see where my mini had gone. I found it, charged it up, and started to play around with it. Honestly, I think the iPod mini is way better! It’s amazing!

I have an ipod shuffle – second generation and have barely used it. (I’ve had it over a year.) It seems the battery is dead and will not charge. Any suggestions?

  19. LyssaLyn on July 30th, 2009 at 9:29 am says:

Theresa: Not the right area for your question. But to answer you, get a wall charger and charge it that way. Look for the charging brick online.. it has a USB port and will connect the ipod dock cord to it and should charge our ipod. If it still doesnt respond on the wall charger then its something to do with the battery or hard drive

Love mine too. Got an otterbox for it so it wouldn’t be too badly damaged being mine. The only thing is that the battery life ain’t the best. When it gets worse, though, I’ll just crack it and put in a new one. I also have a 1st gen shuffle which is great for the gym. Probably won’t get rid of it, still have my Newton….
