iPod Expert Comments:

First generation iPod minis were available in five colors: silver, gold, pink, blue, and green. The gold model was dropped from the second generation range, likely due to its unpopularity. The pink, blue, and green models had brighter hues in the second generation; the silver model remained unchanged. The first generation mini had grey button labels; the second generation had button labels matching the case's color.

Crap battery. Durable though, i give it credit for that. I ran over mine like.. twice, and left it outside in the snow overnight, and it still worked.

Mine broke (the battery finally crapped out last year) so I got a touch. Its so weird to see how much technology has changed in the past few years!

I got mine when they first came out too it really seemed like the new thing, but now that thing is a dinosaur after a couple of years. It’s huge!! but it is really durable mine fell in the toilet and still works lol. But the battery life sucks mine only stays charge about 30 minutes.

I have had a mini since its release and have made sure to condition its battery carefully, and now on hold I can still get almost 11 hours of music playback. One of the most durable iPods out there, and easily upgraded to flash memory to alleviate hard drive headaches (my original 4 gig now has 16 gigs of flash memory)

That was my first iPod and omg it is pretty massive now!

Had one of these loved it, then hated it. It was Apples attemt at aiming the iPod at a lower budget market, but have you noticed it is the only discontinued iPod model to date! The classic, shuffle, nano and all the rest are still on thier feet. The reason for the discontinuation is probably as apple wanted to move to flash instead a hard drive.

The mini uses a mini hard drive with compact flash II interface. So the drive can be replaced with a compatible compact flash card — i.e., it’s “upgradeable”, unlike the nano, which has soldered on memory…. With some effort, the mini can be upgraded to 32 GB as of this time, all solid state/no moving parts….

Google around, you will find batteries, usually with an installation kit complete with a couple tools you will need, plus instructions. You literally “break” into the Mini, though it’s not as bad as it sounds. The batteries availabe are actually far better than the original 2004 batteries, rated at 750mA hrs, with an approx. ten years of life. You can also replace the drive and screen.
